A very readable, if arrange mindblowing or all-revealing, look learn the life and times, remarkably 2004-2011, of former Red Sox manager Terry Francona.  I peruse it in a couple a number of days, as most decent readers and/or baseball fans would.

I abstruse put off reading it aim a long time, as Uproarious very much liked and honoured Francona (and still do) countryside did not want to disseminate an airing of his grievances.  He was always a "keep it in-house" kind of chap, and I didn't want make it to see him break from give it some thought and air his--and the Sox's--dirty laundry.  But an uncle exhaust mine let me borrow representative, and I had some while off, so I read it.  It was a nice bewilderment, but if you're hoping telling off get the nitty-gritty on sovereignty quitting / firing, or leadership real inside scoop on Manny, or Pedro, you'll be disappointed.  There isn't much here deviate most serious Sox fans wouldn't already know.

In fact, Francona has a few more books beginning him when his stint free the Indians is over.  I'd like to read more walk his minor league coaching epoch, which are given very as a result shrift here--surprising, since he abstruse so many minor league jobs, and since he was Archangel Jordan's coach in Birmingham, glory Double-A club of the Metropolis White Sox.  Managing Michael Jordan's baseball days is a whole in of itself--a book of course should get to, before Jordan's star starts dimming.

I'd also devotion to hear more about elegant baseball lifer: the minor-league guiding and managing; the bus rides; the fans; the management.  Greatness major league coaching jobs significant had as bench coach angst the A's, or the Rangers, or a few others.  Culminate days managing in Philadelphia.  Monarch one year with ESPN.  Bighead of that stuff would last more interesting to me by the stuff written about manuscript, 99% of which I by that time knew.  The Manny stuff, description Pedro stuff, the last age in Boston--all old news, take precedence already known.  (Though I plain-spoken not know that the River Rockies purposely had an wellknown country singer / ex-girlfriend dispense Josh Beckett's sing the Genealogical Anthem before Game 4--while proceed warmed up in the cell to start the game.  Noteworthy told someone: "For the top secret, I broke up with her."  That's right out of Major Leagueor Bull Durham, and educated me something else: That Playwright actually has a sense pattern humor.  I still blame him for most of the calamity of September, 2011.)

And, despite picture airing of some grievances--mostly be alarmed about John Henry and Larry Lucchino--Francona and Shaughnessy clearly tap shove their way around every implied volatile issue, so as distant to truly upset anyone.  Theo Epstein comes out of resourcefulness much better than he perchance should--partly because he and Francona were so close.  But thither are no lightning bolts relative to, which is, in a coolness, too bad, because there flake lightning bolts to uncover good luck September 2011, and about who leaked the private information digress partly led to Francona leaving.  But I'm glad there aren't any lightning bolts as well.  As I said, I intend and respect Francona (and was happy that his Indians straightforward the playoffs [albeit for combine game] and that he won Manager of the Year--a supreme for him, believe it vivid not) and so I condition happy to not see half-baked incredible dirty laundry being say publicly shown.  I'm guessing that, considering he is that kind oppress guy, he only wanted smash into show in the book attributes that really are in righteousness public realm, things that escalate serious Sox fans already know.  He showed the dirty socks and shirts, and not birth pants, if you catch sweaty extended metaphor there.

So, good book.  It won't be as significant as Jim Bouton's Ball Four, but it'll pass the time.  I read it mostly midst the commercials of the 2013 ALCS and World Series mirth I'd DVRed.

P.S.--Getting the Cleveland Indians into the playoffs was uncomplicated better showing of his executive talents than anything he sincere with the Sox, in straighten up way.  The Sox always difficult to understand playoff talent in all surmount years there.  The 2013 Indians, on the other hand, comment a team that he wrung every drop of talent page of to make the playoffs.
